Our profession of health coaching is finally making the mainstream media! It took a while even though Functional Medicine and Integrative Medicine practitioners have been using Health Coaches for a while and there are several well-recognized training programs for health coaches: FMCA, ADAPT etc. The New York Times published an article by an integrative pediatrician that recognizes the importance of Health Coaches in helping patients set personal goals and achieve the practitioner-prescribed goals.
Health coaching is a relatively new profession and is still finding its footing within the medical paradigm. But the practitioners using it report great success and better results in their patients. The American Academy of Family Physicians published a reference to an article in 2016 reviewing outcomes after one year of patients who received coaching vs. a control group. Surprise! The patients who received the help of a health coach continued to have better outcomes!
